CH 2. Bombing Interviews

I put myself out there.  Went to administration offices then to just meet principals (not formal interviews) to just do a meet and greet.  The 2005-2006 school year was not over, but I wanted to give anyone I could my resume and a face to put with it.   When I went to a principal and told her how I wanted to incorporate Art into the main subject areas she literally said to me, "We don't do that around here.  You are better off going to a private school."  I think my jaw hit the floor and I thanked her for her time and left. 

I went to interview after interview that spring and summer with no takers.  As July was coming to a close, I had two interviews- both in small town communities.  I sat at a round table interview for an hour trying to sell myself, and when I left the thought I had in my head was that there was no way they would not give me the job.  I had it in the bag.  A few days later I got the call-- You are not what we are looking for right now, but good luck.  UGH!!!  And yes I cried.  

I had one last interview during the last week of July.  If I didn't get this job, there was no way anyone would hire me.  School was going to start in 3 weeks.   Another round table interview... there had to be 9 different people in there.  I talked about art, motivating others, and my openness to learn new things.  Then the questions came at me. I seemed to do okay until the 4th grade math teacher asked me, "How would you teach about factors?"  HUH???  I couldn't even remember what factors were.... I knew they had something to do with math.... so I said the only thing that came to my mind:

"I dont remember what factors are, but I do remember that when you multiply decimals you count how many places are behind and then on your answer do the little loop back."

Looking back on my answer, I slap myself on the forehead and think why??? why did I say that?? ugh...
When I left my last interview, I knew there was no way they were going to hire me.  NO WAY... but God has a plan for me, and I don't know how He did it, but He worked on that principal's heart and during the last week of July, I got the call saying that he would love to hire me.  That my art background would be great for 4th grade Science and S.S.  Ummm.... I hated science in school, but now Science and I were going to become best friends.
