I know it's MNM.... but we arent really working in our math notebooks... in fact we are testing this week in both Math and Reading. TAKS has become STARR and I am sure the teachers across Texas are asking the same questions I am asking myself:
- Did I teach my students to the calibur of the questions that will be asked?
- Have I supplied my students with all the tools of reasoning?
- How are my kids going to feel about being timed?
- I always tell them to take their time.... but will they??? Especially with the new time frame?
- Do my kids know that I have faith in each one of them no matter what?
I am giving them a pep talk tomorrow along with a little gift, but before I get into the gift... I wanted to tell yall about something my mom gave me when I was about 12 years old. It's a stone with the following quote engraved on it said by George S. Patton:
"If a man does his best, what else is there?"
My students look at this stone all the time since it sits on my desk. As a child it took me a long time to fully understand what General Patton was saying here. I have already told my students that I dont care if they pass or fail, but whether they do their very best, and then I repeat that quote.
Tomorrow I will remind them of this quote and give them his little do dad.

You can print the Smartie Pants sign from this awesome site
I cut out some pants that were to size 8. Cut 40 of them.... well I didnt the CRICUT did... did I say I loved it yet???
9 per page.... 5 pages... just enough for mess ups.
Look carefully at the leg... see that little cut line.... PERFECT for some smarites to fit in... the Smarties will become the legs!!! Too cute!! But before I put the smarites in, I need to write on these little guys....
Some looked like this... theses were the 1st ones...
But in the end.... the back of the pants...

That is just adorable! Our state tests are over - phew - but this would be a great idea for final exams, too.
